This post summarizes the ATR and EMA strategy from The Forex Geek's video "ATR and EMA Strategy – Stop Getting Stopped Out and Catch High-Probability Trades With Confidence". The method is from the video. The video uses a forex chart, but the rules are based on a moving average and volatility, so you can test the same idea on crypto yourself.
THE IDEA
Use the 50 EMA to see which way the trend is going. Use ATR (Average True Range) to see how much price usually moves, so your stop is not too tight. Then enter on a pullback to the 50 EMA, in the direction of the trend.
STEP 1: FIND THE TREND WITH THE 50 EMA
– Price above the 50 EMA: uptrend, look for buy trades.
– Price below the 50 EMA: downtrend, look for sell trades.
The 50 EMA also acts as a moving support or resistance line.
STEP 2: CHECK VOLATILITY WITH ATR
– Higher ATR: price moves more, so you need a wider stop.
– Lower ATR: price moves less, so a tighter stop is possible.
The video does not name an ATR period. 14 is the usual default on TradingView.
STEP 3: WAIT FOR A PULLBACK TO THE 50 EMA
Do not enter at random. Wait for price to come back to the 50 EMA.
STEP 4: SET THE STOP LOSS WITH ATR
Put the stop 1.5x ATR below your entry for a buy, or 1.5x ATR above your entry for a sell. This keeps the stop at a safe distance and gives price room to move.
STEP 5: CONFIRM AND ENTER
Enter after price bounces off the 50 EMA and market conditions look healthy. Candlestick patterns can add extra confirmation.
STEP 6: SET THE TAKE PROFIT
Use the next support/resistance level, or 2x ATR.
A SIMPLE NUMBER EXAMPLE (example numbers, not a real trade)
Buy at 100 with ATR = 2.
Stop loss = 100 – (1.5 x 2) = 97 (risk of 3).
Take profit at 2x ATR = 100 + (2 x 2) = 104 (reward of 4).
That is a reward-to-risk of about 1.33 to 1. At that ratio you need to win a little over 4 out of 10 trades just to break even, before fees. If you aim for a bigger support/resistance target, the ratio improves.
KEY TIPS FROM THE VIDEO
– Avoid sideways markets. This strategy works best in trends.
– Use higher timeframes (1H, 4H or Daily) for better accuracy.
– Adjust your stop with ATR: volatile markets need more room.
– Combine it with price action signals.
WHEN IT MAY WORK
Clear trends where price pulls back to the 50 EMA and then continues.
WHEN IT MAY STRUGGLE
– Sideways, choppy markets: price crosses the 50 EMA back and forth and gives false signals.
– Strong trends that never pull back to the 50 EMA, so there is no entry.
– Sell trades need a Futures market. Futures and leverage add risk.
TRY IT YOURSELF
Put a 50 EMA and an ATR on a BTC/USDT 4H or Daily chart, mark past pullbacks that follow these rules, and count how many reached the target and how many hit the stop. Test different periods and include fees.

RISK
This is not financial advice. No strategy wins every trade. Always use a stop loss and a small position size. Only use money you can afford to lose.
